Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Your privacy matters deeply to us. This Platform handles sensitive personal information, including religious beliefs, family background, and relationship intentions. We treat all of it with care, discretion, and the respect it deserves.
1. Who we are
Shareek-é-Ruh (ABN 21 620 502 347) ("we", "us", "our") operates the Shareek-é-Ruh matrimony platform and is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at contact@shareekeruh.com.
2. What information we collect
We collect the following kinds of personal information:
Account information
- Your name and email address
- Your password (stored as a one-way hash, never readable)
Profile information
- The details you choose to share about yourself, such as your age, location, education and work
- Photos (approved before display)
- Your faith and practice, family background, and marriage intentions
- Your answers to our values and story questions
Identity verification
- To confirm who you are, our payment and verification provider (Stripe) checks a government-issued ID and a photo of you
- Stripe holds your ID document and photo. We keep only the result: your verified name, date of birth, and whether verification succeeded
Payment information
- Your card is handled entirely by Stripe and never reaches our servers. We keep only your membership and billing references
Communications
- Messages sent through our chaperoned chat
- Notes from your conversations with our team, made to support your search
- Support correspondence
Usage information
- Pages visited, features used, login timestamps
- Device type, browser, IP address
- Aggregate analytics on our public pages, via Google Analytics (see section 7)
Information from your family. If a family member registers you with us, we collect your details from them, with your knowledge and agreement, and contact them first. You may ask us to correct or remove anything they have shared.
Sensitive information. Your religious beliefs, and the photo check used to verify your identity, are sensitive information under the Australian Privacy Act. We collect them only with your consent and only because they are central to the service.
3. How we use your information
We use your information only to:
- Provide your membership, including introductions and chaperoned chat.
- Verify your identity and keep our community safe, including preventing fraud and duplicate accounts.
- Take payment and manage your membership.
- Send you messages about your account and your introductions.
- Improve our service.
- Meet our legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
You may withdraw your consent to our use of sensitive information at any time. As it is central to the service, this may mean we can no longer provide your membership.
4. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with:
- Our matchmaking and moderation team, to review profiles and facilitate introductions.
- A guardian or family member you choose to invite, with the access you agree to.
- Cloud infrastructure providers (hosting, database), under strict data processing agreements.
- Stripe, for payments and identity verification. Stripe does not receive your profile content.
- Email service providers, to send messages about your account and introductions.
- Cloudflare Turnstile, a security check on our public forms that tells people from automated spam. It looks at technical signals from your browser (not your form answers) and sets no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Automated authenticity checks: we flag unusual signs (for example the same message sent to many members, a request for money, or details that match another account) for our team to review. A flag is never an automatic decision about you; a person always decides.
- Google Analytics, which receives aggregated usage data (such as pages visited, device type, and approximate location) to help us understand how our public pages are used. We never send your name, email, or profile content to Google.
- Law enforcement or safeguarding bodies, only where legally required or to prevent serious harm.
Other members see only what is shown on your profile. Your contact details are shared with another member only with your consent.
5. How long we keep your data
6. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you may:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to our legal obligations.
- Withdraw your consent to our use of sensitive information at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@shareekeruh.com. We will respond within 30 days. Members outside Australia may have further rights under their local law, which we will honour.
7. Cookies & analytics
We group cookies into three categories, and you control the optional ones:
- Strictly necessary cookies keep you logged in and maintain session security. They are needed for the site to function, so they are always on and cannot be switched off.
- Analytics (Google Analytics) helps us understand aggregate usage, such as which pages are visited and on what kind of device. We never send your name, email, or profile content to Google.
- Marketing (the Meta / Facebook Pixel) helps us measure how our advertising campaigns perform, and may be used by Meta to attribute and deliver our ads.
The two optional categories are on by default. A notice on the site tells you about them, and you can accept all, reject the non-essential ones, or turn each category on or off individually. We remember your choice, and anything you turn off does not run.
You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer of any page. You can also disable cookies in your browser settings (strictly necessary cookies are needed for core functionality) and opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
8. Data security
We use industry-standard security measures: encrypted connections (TLS), encrypted database storage, hashed passwords, and access controls limiting which team members can view sensitive profile data. No system is entirely secure, but we take our obligations seriously and review security practices regularly.
9. International transfers
As an Australian business, your data is handled in compliance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Where infrastructure or service providers process data outside Australia, transfers are made under appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses), and we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your data consistently with Australian law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of material changes by email and by notice on the Platform. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
11. Contact & complaints
For privacy questions or concerns: contact@shareekeruh.com
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. International members may also contact their local data protection authority.
